MP3 is a compressed sound format that is highly efficient. All songs here are previously on copy tapes & cassettes. The originals should be LP's. I have no information about who the singers are. What I did is transferring the songs to the computer (recording as *.WAV file) and then compressing them with an MP3Compressor. Any information or correction is highly appreciated. You may go down this page for playing information.

• Can you play MP3 files? Check this sample before downloading any of big files above.

Click on the sample and try to open, play, save & play, ..etc. If you can't; below, you may find more instructions.

PC USERS: You need a sound card!!

• If you have internet explorer 4.0 running on a pc with a sound card, you should have no problem. I have tested and seen that "Active Movie" which comes with IE 4.0 reads MP3 files with media player.
  How?:Just click the song titles, you will be prompted to (open) or (Save). If you (open), the song will play right there. If you choose to (Save), you will be prompted for the location to save the file. You can access the mp3 anytime then.

• If you use Netscape or any other browser: I do not know if it plays with built-in capabilities. With any browser, I am sure you can download the mp3 files by clicking. After that;

If the information supplied above is not enough, a websearch with keywords
"mp3, player, name_of_your_system (PC, Mac, Linux, Unix..) "
will bring the related pages. This was how I learned about the mp3 stuff.

MY WORDS TO SAY..

• The purpose of this page is preserving these songs.

• I'd be glad to learn anything about these songs. You see, there is so little information available. Some of the lyrics are not here. Any contribution; information, lyrics or new mp3's will help.

• The sound quality here is low, mostly due to the old copy cassettes & tapes. My father says that songs were originally on 78 rpm old tech LP's. Then they are copied to tapes and then to cassettes.

• Transforming a wav file into an MP3 is easy, you can prepare your own MP3's. Compressors can be found from MP3 sites. It would be great if we somehow put all the significant songs of our culture on the net. If there are any MP3 sites with songs in Tatar or if you produce your Tatar MP3's, I would like to put their links here.

• Do you want to be informed about the changes here? I may put your address to the "tatarmp3" list in my addressbook. I plan to send informative e-mails when I upload new songs, or if sth changes significantly. Recipents will not know each other (blind carbon copy).
